I wanted to code this with 34812 but a primary code is needed for that and I'm unsure what I need to use since it appears the primary procedure wasn't done. On induction of anesthesia, the patient had a cardiac arrest. CPR was immediately instituted. CPR went on for 25-30 minutes, with an attempt at shocking the patient several times. The right groin was prepped and draped. Right femoral cutdown was performed. Patient was heparinized. An arterial cannula was placed in right femoral artery. Just when we were starting to cannulate the vein, the patient regained cardiac function. TEE was performed and the patient had normal left ventricular function, with mild right ventricular dilatation, but otherwise good systolic function. It was felt that because of the length of CPR, we should not continue with the open-heart surgery. When we were sure the patient was stable, an internal jugular IV was placed. The femoral arterial cannula was removed. The vessel was repaired and the groin wound was then closed. Any suggestions on how to code this?
