How do you code "flu like symptoms" diagnosis outpatient setting?

In the index influenza-like disease tells us to see influenza
J11.1 is for influenza NOS, flu laryngitis NOS, flu pharyngitis NOS, and flu with upper respiratory symptoms NOS

This said depends on documentation if any of the above symptoms were documented J11.1 or just code the symptoms:)

Thank you!

if a provider states "flu like symptoms", I would not code flu, I would code the specific symptoms.
"influenza - like disease" is still a disease and not a symptom.

the description of J11.1 is "influenza due to unidentified influenza virus with other respiratory manifestations"
per Optum EncoderPro "Range J11- this category represents a diagnosis of influenza that has not been identified as to type"

this code is not for "flu-like symptoms".
