Good Morning,

I am having a little disagreement with one of our billers on how to code flu shots. If a patient comes in only for the flu shot I have been coding for the vaccine plus the vaccine administrative fee. Our patients are calling up and asking how much it costs for the shot and they are quoted $25 but when the bill comes they have the additional administrative fee included which they were not aware of. Can anyone tell me which is the correct way to bill the vaccine out.

Thank you,
Lisa

You would bill for the actual immunization plus the administration charge. If patient's are calling for prices, they really should be told the total amount, not just the cost of the immunization itself.
