Patient has a left thyroid mass and FNA was performed. Three repeat FNA's were done each with a new needle all advanced into the left thyroid mass. Do I code for only one FNA or can I code for each new needle advanced into the left thyroid mass?

Thanks,

FNA Thyroid BX w/multiple new needles

just passing through and saw this inquiry ..

you don't indicate "why" three (3) FNA's were done on the L thyroid mass. Was there a complication? Was it medically necessary? If so, did the medical provider indicate why?

Was the specimen adequate? Not adequate, thus the need for additional passes?

without this information it would be somewhat challenging to answer your question appropriately...
