Pt was inpatient and provider performed a surgery with a 90 day global but also provided follow-up care with patient during her five day stay (post-op). Ins in considering her five day stay part of the global surgery and not wanting to pay for follow-up. Can someone explain if we have an appeal right or are we stuck in the global period..... ????? Thought that since it was inpatient there would be some appeal for servcies rendered....
 
Nope, inpatient stay is included in the global. The surgery payment includes post op care while an inpatient or outpatient. The only exception for care related to the surgery is for complications (but not Medicare, they only allow billing in the global if the patient returns to operating room).
