Good morning everyone, if I have a pt comes for abscess that is drainig and on the triage note it states pt had and I&D done 6 days ago but doesn't say it was done here in our ER and the Dr doesn't mention it being done here in our ER can we code for this ER visit? our doctor did another i&D on same area also ordered toradol ivp, but the remote coder coded the profee level as 99024 so is she right or wrong? I personally thinks she is wrong especially since he did another I&D and I don't know where the pt was seen the 1st time..thanks for any help on this..alice
 
Was the patient there (1) just to follow up on the I &D or were they there (2) for issues due to the abscess which after assessment he decided needed to be drained again. If it is the second scenario I say you charge a visit and the I&D.

I don't have the chart in front of me right now but I am pretty sure he came in for followup then told the dr that it was draining and was painfull..thanks alice
