My doctor says he put in ureteral stents for another doctor during a diverticulitis surgery. He said they were French Whistle Tip Stents. Am I correct that these are not indwelling ureteral stents and should use 52005 and not 52332? I'm just not familiar with the name of these stents. Thank you!

The Whistle Tip Stents are ureteral catheters not JJ stents, and the placement of these prior to surgery should be billed with CPT code 52005 for bilateral stents for Medicare. For non Medicare carriers bill 52005-50 for the placement of bilateral ureteral catheters.
