Hi. Has anyone heard lately that Medicare is looking to audit Optometrists who are filing Fundus Photos (92250) with office visits? I have heard that they want the photos to be billed at another visit. Does anyone know how often we can bill 92250 with office visits, without triggering an audit from Medicare?

Thanks,
Rhonda S. Klubeck, RHIA, CPC

I don't see it very often with my providers but I would imagine if there is a diagnosis supporting the photos (instead of just a general diagnosis for the visit) the denial % would be low. I haven't heard about any audit triggers other than the Eye Codes being a audit topic.
