I am really new at billing Home Health Certs and Recerts. I am confused in how to code the DOS. Do you span the dates of the Cert or Recert Period, or do you use just one DOS ( beginning or end date), or do you use the DOS as the date the doctor signed the form? Thanks!

We always bill the DOS as the date that the MD signs the note/form. In the past we billed the start of care period but this is discussed in a CMS policy. I don't have it handy at the moment but will look for it.

My question that no one seems to know the answer to is, can you bill for the certification/recertification if the patient doesn't start Home Health. And how do you know?
Tim
