Can anyone tell me if the code for OCT is 99174?
Also how do you know when to code E/M codes in Ophthamology?
Do you code for referrals from a Dr. or referrals to a Dr.?

Any help would be good, I am new at this and want to make sure I am doing things right.

Melissa,
There are two CPT codes for OCT'S 92133 Optic nerve imaging used for Glaucoma Patients and 92134 used for Retinal imaging. E & M codes vs Eye codes there are different requirements. As for coding referrals I do not understand what you need.

oh one more question- Do you always code a pmh of an IOL. If so which code would you use?

If a patient had cataract surgery in the past we would use V43.1 as the last ICD-9 code for the visit.
