Hi,
I am looking at how to charge for Genetic counseling. I know the code 96040/S0265 they are pretty straight forward.
But in Iowa genetic counselors are not recognized to bill independently so we have to bill incident to. The codes say for providers that can bill E&M codes then genetic counseling should be billed with E&M codes.
I don't want to end up with concurrent care denials because the patient saw the oncologist and a genetic counselor on the same date. The Oncologist usually bill by time anyway but the genetic counselor would have to bill prolonged time and I am not sure if we can bill prolonged service as incident to.
Any advice?
