I am looking for some information regarding if the genetic counselors can use CPT code 96040 and if they can bill under their own NPI#. If some one could help that would be great.

I do not think Genetic Counselors can bill on there own. It is my understanding that they hope to in the future. That is why their organization has recommended that they get NPI #. We bill under the physican (genetics) and he co-signs the report.
 
Code 96040

In regards to this code, to my knowledge there are no RVUs associated to it. This would be a huge problem with physicians that work incentive or productivity
