Mr. Bill Maurice, RHIT, CCS-P has over 18 years experience specializing in medical coding, billing, healthcare claim analytics, education, compliance, and comprehensive reimbursement assessments. He has worked with and provided work for some of the most prestigious Academic Medical Intuitions and Physicians Groups in the country, such as, The University of Southern California (USC), Kaiser Permanente, and Evanston Northwestern (ENW). He was a Senior Reimbursement/Coding Specialist for a large third party medical billing company. Mr. Maurice developed, designed, and implemented both the company's physicians coding department and later Corporate Compliance Program. As Corporate Compliance Officer, he was assisted by a healthcare attorney that helped design the Officer of Inspector General's (OIG) Healthcare Compliance Program for Third-Party Medical Billing Companies.
Over the past 6 years, he has concentrated his work on both the sides of the health-care payment system (providers and payers). Mr. Maurice has developed reimbursement payment policies for Third-Party Payers and Providers. He has concentrated his unique skill set in “third-party payer” reimbursement methodologies, he has provided insight to managed care contracting solutions, training on “The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)”, as well as, educating payer(s) and providers on clean claims payments ensuring appropriate reimbursement for the healthcare provider. He has been project manager and reviewer for the “Medicare Risk Adjustment” projects (Medicare Advantage Plans).
Mr. Maurice worked for one of the largest public accounting and consulting firms in the country (McGladrey & Pullen, LLP). He was a senior healthcare consultant and worked on many major projects, such as, developing compliance risk assessments and he has performed several reimbursement audits (working with over 2000 Providers). He was asked by the United States General Accounting Office (GAO) to give advice, as to the complexities of the Medicare and Medicaid programs communicating with physician practices. During previous years, Mr. Maurice served as the Director of Coding and was responsible for physician billing compliance, medical coding analysis, and auditing. He served as Director of Billing and Health Information for a large multi-specialty physicians group. His accomplishments and responsibilities included physicians revenue, coding and validation of the groups third party payments, health information regulations, and operations for three satellite clinics.
He was Health Care Billing Consultant and Director of Physicians Billing for a practice management software vendor. In these roles, he was responsible for all billing functions, medical coding analysis, auditing, and training.
He is a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and Certified Coding Specialist – Physician Based (CCS-P) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and received his Associates Degree from Spoon River College, Canton, Illinois. He has also completed several selected courses in Health Information at Illinois State University. Mr. Maurice has served on the downstate Medicare Part B Provider Advisory Committee. He is a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Central Illinois Health Information Management Association (CIHIMA), Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA), and the Healthcare Compliance Association (HCCA).
