Hey guys!

patient had a 56405 I&d of vulva for abscess, we are in 10 global period currently, she was brough back to OR for wound packing change under MAC not general anesthesia because she couldn't tolerate it otherwise just to painful , NO infection. I assume this would be considered routine global care because there was no infection or complication but wasn't sure because it did require a return to the OR......? and if I can charge for it any thoughts because cpt 15852 is for general anesthesia only, 12021 is for wound dehiscence....

Thanks so much!

If this is your normal procedure - that is wound packing change - it would be included. Did the MD administer the MAC? If not, you should consider this as part of global. The hospital will charge for the room and MAC in that case.

even though it required a return to the operating room it's still global? no the md did not admin the mac

You can try and bill but there is no code for this. It would be unlisted and now you have to support it with a medically indicated Dx which in this case is patient intolerance, not a medical need to change the dressing due to a complication. Your call
