A patient had a craniotomy to remove a tumor done on 1/9/15 and came back into the hospital on 1/29/15 due to scalp infection. I said the initial hospital care on 1/29/15 and the daily visit done on 1/30/15 is not billable since it is included in the post op period, but someone else is saying that they are since it is a new DX. Patient ended up having surgery on 1/30/15 to drain the scalp infection. Am I thinking wrong regarding the consults?

You are thinking correct about the consults, they are apart of the global period. You can only charge for the procedure performed. The scalp infection is just a complication from the initial surgery.
