Can anybody help clarify H&P charging. I have a pain doctor that wants to charge for his own H&P. Is this legitimate? I was thinking that once you make the decision for surgery that following up with another e/m code was inappropriate as the H&P is done the day before the procedure.

Most patients are commercial-what are the H&P codes?

Is your doctor admitting the patient for surgery? Or has your doctor been asked to perform a preop surgical clearance? Once the decision for surgery has been made, then the regular preop visit is included in the global fee for the surgery.
