Need help w/this scenario -

Surgeon sees patient for an E/M visit and decision for surgery was made. Surgery scheduled for 30 days after this visit with the surgeon. Patient is scheduled for a H&P, pre-op counseling with the PA - the PA discusses the surgery and other physiologies w/the patients diagnosis and answers any and all questions. The surgeon then sees the patient the day of the surgery in the hospital to complete the H&P (which is not billed for as included with surgical package).

The question would be is the PAs' visit billable?????

Thanks,
Lori

I'd say no

I'd say no. There's no medical necessity for a separate office visit before surgery. It's included in the global surgical package.
