I have a double chamber rt ventricle; outflow tract resection specimen-non neoplastic- " fibrosis dx" 3.8 cm--
should code be a 88307 or 88309, cpt has myocardium bx as a 88307, my doc is giving it a 88305.. ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!! :(
 
This is an unlisted specimen. Based on the value of a thorough gross and microscopic examination, as well as accurate diagnosis for the patient's future care plan, a resection of heart tissue should be coded 88309. If a biopsy of myocardium is a Level V specimen, a resection which involves more average pathologist work will be a Level VI.

I doubt any payer will dispute this assessment.
