Hello I need opinions on billing TEE procedure 93313 vs 93318, I have a CRNA who wants to bill 93318 and another CRNA stating he's just placing the probe. My instinct is to go with 93313 but in what case would I use 93318?

Help!! Billing TEE procedure for CRNA 93313vs 93318

I have a Coder's Desk Reference for Procedures that is like my bible for clarifying what a procedure entails.

93313 specifically states it is for probe placement only.

93312 is used for a complete evaluation including probe placement, image acquisition and the physicians interpretation.

93314 is used for image acquisition, physician interpretation and report only.

93318 this code reports ongoing hemodynamic monitoring using TEE to monitor critically ill patients. Its used to monitor cardiac function etc.

The CRNA needs to clarify what exactly was done before you can decide which code to use.

Most times the 93313 is the procedure they are doing.

Just my opinion.
Sometimes if you show them the descriptions they can choose their codes better.
