I previously looked through the forum to see if my question has been previously answered and didn't find what I was looking for directly. In my scenario I have the provider has documented DM type 2 with diabetic mixed hyperlipidemia and would some understanding of coding it correctly since the provider has linked them together. From my understanding I would code E11.69 DM with other specified complications and captured the E78.2 mixed hyperlipidemia. I have been told to capture code E11.59 instead and would like to get a better understanding of why when hyperlipidemia falls under the category: Endocrine & Metabolic Diseases. Please clarify for correct code capture.
