We had a patient who had an IV therapy of albumin after the paracentesis. The start time was 1701 and stop time 1716. Since this is only 15 minutes can I charge as 96374, IV Push?

Thank you.
Sue

96374-IV push

Intravenous push and Intravenous infusion are different, I think in this case the 96365 could be appropriate,
hope this helps...

Dr. Jemimah, CPC:)

I believe you should use the 96374 because the definition of Intravenous or intra-arterial push is (a) an injection in which the health care professional who administers the drug/stubstance is continuously present to administer the injection and observe the patient, or (b) an infusion of 15 minutes or less.
Key part being the 15 minutes or less. I hope this helps. :)

here is a cheat sheet we use:

PAIN RX: THERAPEUTIC INJECTION
IV Push is defined as an infusion of ≤15 minutes 96374 +96375 +96376

ANTIBIOTIC RX: THERAPEUTIC INFUSION
