Good afternoon! I have a question regarding coding cancelled cases for anesthesia....and I was unable to find a direct answer via ASA's site online. If anyone has any knowledge on the subject please comment.
I am trying to find out whether or not coding E/M for a case which was cancelled after the pre op exam but before the patient is fully intubated and ready for surgery is applicable. I have the Anesthesia and Pain Answer book for 2013 from Decision Health which confirms that using an E/M code here follows protocol; however I was recently in a discussion with an anesthesiologist who did not think it should be billed that way.
Any ideas??
Thank you so much!! :)
