Wiki Help with billing options for UDS at Psychiatry office

Hi all! Very confused with what our options are here... I am assuming we are looking at 80305-07? So here is the usual scenario, provider sees the client and orders a UDS, we collect the sample and send off to lab and get back within a week. Can we bill the UDS code on the day the provider orders it/collects it if we are just sending it off to a lab? Is there anything we can bill in that case?

If you are doing nothing other than sending off the sample, you do not get to bill for the test code - the lab will bill that.

Thank you, so basically the only way you can bill for UDS is to read and process the results yourself instead of sending it off to lab?

If you are doing a rapid cup, and you have a CLIA waiver, you can bill for the rapid test. HOWEVER, if you're always going to send the cup to the lab for confirmation, then the rapid cup becomes not medically necessary, which means billing for it is a Very Bad Idea.

If you have an in-house lab and process the sample yourself, then you can bill for that.
