is there a code for ileitis with SIRS?
is this considered sepsis?
thanks so much

Hi Laurie,

Personally, I would not code the SIRS as Sepsis unless the documentation supports Sepsis. I would use the code for SIRS as appropriate for the documentation and the code for Ileitis.

I hope this helps,

Look in the coding guidelines for help with this:
(iii)
Sepsis generally refers to SIRS due to infection.
(iv)
Severe sepsis generally refers to sepsis with associated acute organ dysfunction.
Therefore Sepsis is SIRS, 995.91 or 995.92
Ileitis with SIRS would be the local infection due to SESPIS (SIRS) which is the systemic condition So if you do not have and organism documented the you will code
038.9 (see the guidelines)
995.91
555.0 (assuming, without more info)
