Wiki Help with ivus

We have phyisicans at our practice that do not do interventions, but can do cardiac caths. So with that being said, I have a question:

If one phyisican does a LHC (93458/26) and another physican does an IVUS (92978/26) can you charge for the IVUS? The physician who is doing the IVUS is also doing a corornary angiography (93454/26). We have not been charging the coronary angiography because the patient already had a heart cath the same day and we haven't been charging for the IVUS because it is an add on code and it is a different phyisican performing it. The phyisican is now upset because he is not getting credit for it? I am going by the guidelines. Is this not correct?

Also, I have been going by these guidelines the FFR (93571/26) as well.

You can bill the IVUS. HOWEVER, it will create a billing mess for you. You will more than likely need to appeal and may or may not be paid. We have the same problem but not with IVUS. Ours is with the pressure testing. Talk to your billing person and see what you want to do.
