Hello everyone - My docs have started doing bariactric pre-surgical psych evals. Most of the time these patients can be diagnosed with an adjustment disorder, but sometimes there is no mental health disorder to attach to the evaluation and testing. Any idea what ICD-9/DSM-IV code should be used as primary this these cases?

Pre op V-codes as primary?

The V79.9, V79.8 codes are a possibility also--if you come up empty-handed on an actual Dx.

I'd also check with "frequent flyer" payers--those you use most often for these services. They can make their own "recommendations" on what's appropriate for their benes.
