I have a patient who comes in for sutures removed related to workers comp injury
but also needs meds refilled on an ongoing health issue

how would i bill for this and can we do both things at the same time?

In this case, it is acceptable to bill the WC carrier one E&M code and then the regular medical carrier another E&M code. (I'm assuming your practice did not do the initial suturing.) The key is to make sure you aren't overlapping E&M levels, so to speak. The practitioner should separate out chart notes, too, so each service is clearly defined.
