Hello, Has anyone come across any 2023 guidance on coding initial and recurrent hernias? Ex. repair of an initial incarcerated ventral and recurrent reducible incisional, in close proximity, 2 cm ea- total 4 cm. While I understand the entire repair would be coded to the highest severity of incarcerated but would you choose 49594 (initial) or 49614 (recurrent)? Any opinion or official guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.
