Had a patients step-mother call in to confirm the address on file. Our staff confirmed only the street name. Is this a problem? She felt it was okay because it wasn't any private MEDICAL info....

Technically, you can't even confirm that the patient is one of yours, without releasing PHI. In the future, advise that for parents of patients over 18, you can take info, but not confirm info, without a signed authorization on file. For patients under 18, you can release info to parents that are considered legal guardians. Hope that helps! ;)
