When I verify on Medicare website member was enrolled with Hospice but states revoked. Example episode start 9/20/19 and end date 11/20/19 that state Hospice was revoked. Does that mean during the 9/20-11/20 patient was no longer in hospice or is the member enrolled in hospice for this period only?? or If member was enrolled with manage care is it the manage care responsibility if within those dates? Help unclear about the word revoked. Hard to get correct information.

Hello,
In hospice care, revoked means that the patient has decided they no longer wish to have hospice care. This might be because they have chosen to seek aggressive treatment. There are many other reasons for revocation, though. The time period mentioned above would mean that the patient was enrolled in hospice care from 09/20/19 through 11/20/19. If you had a claim to submit for this patient during that time period, you would need to send it to the hospice that was providing treatment to the patient. They will process the claim and decide if it was related to the hospice primary diagnosis. If it is, the hospice will pay you at the Medicare rate for your services (if you are contracted with them). If it is unrelated, they should return the claim to you with a letter stating it is unrelated that you can then attach to the claim to send to the patient's primary insurance. At least that is the process we use in my state.
So you know, I am the billing and coding specialist for a hospice and palliative care organization.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for your help so my understanding the start to the term date is hospice and because it states revoke just means they were no enrolled the whole episode period and hospice is effective for part payment.
