Scenerio: Physician's established patient has been diagnosed with cancer and is in the hospital. Pt's care is transferred to hospice. The physician continues to see the patient during rounds. How can this be charged? A subsequent visit with GV modifier? Advice needed!

Once a patient is in Hospice, the physician cannot bill for anything that is related to the reason the patient is in Hospice. The GW modifier would be appropriate for this situation.

Two questions before I can advise:
1) is the primary physician also the patient's hospice attending, meaning did he/she sign the certification?
2) is the primary physician seeing the patient for the hospice diagnosis or another issue?
