If a patient was admitted to the hospital and a doctor from our office did a hospital consult, then later that day the same patient was transferred to a different hospital and another one of our doctors was called to consult this patient, can this be billed 2 consults or 1 consult & a subsequent visit or just 1 consult???

If the 2nd MD met all requirements for a consultation, you can bill for the 2nd consult at the other hospital by another MD. Insurances will usually deny, but can be appealed and paid.

If both the physicians who did the consults bill with the same tax id (belongs to same subspeciality), then one consult will be denied. If they belong to different subspecialities, they can bill the two consults and get paid. If they belong to the same subspeciality and the reason for the consult is different from the previous consult, then there is very thin chance of getting paid in appeal.
