Can anyone tell me if you have had a provider utilize their NP to complete a patients d/c summary paperwork and submit billing for the day the d/c summary was completed (99316) 06/11, and then have the actual physician see the patient after the d/c summary billed date of 06/11 and submit billing for subsequent visit (99309) 06/13?

Also...Should the d/c be billed using the date it was actually completed or the date the physician signed the summary? We always billed using the date it was reviewed and signed , and didnt care what date it was actually completed on?....

I know the usual rules but this one is really odd since the NP is billing for d/c and the provider is billing for a f/u visit after the billed discharged date.

I cant find any documentation stating this is ok to bill? Any thoughts!

MEMO
NP completed discharge summary on 06/11/ billed 99316
Provider saw patient on 06/13 to verify pt's condition /billed 99309

I hope this isnt confusing....:D
