I was told by my boss that we don't charge CPT 99238 or 99239 on day of discharge. I work in Colon & Rectal surgery. We admit patients for 3-10 day stays to undergo resections, removals, additions etc... She told me that discharge day management is included in the procedure surgery payment. Some codes are; 45550, 45110, , 45119, 45126... The surgery guidelines are a little vague about what is considered after care

Anything with surgical global days attached to it would include the discharge management. I think the codes you mention carry 90 day global periods, therefore discharge is included in the procedure.
