If a patient is in observation in the hospital, and never admitted, but seen as a new patient on the first day, then examined on the second day,and then discharged on the third day, how would you code this?
We would like to code the initial visit as 99219, the subsequent day as 99214, and then the dischare as 99217. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The hospital claims state they were never admitted and all charges are outpatient.
