My question is dealing with Hospitalist physicians. Suppose you have a patient that was admitted in the hospital on the psych floor and one of your hospitalist was called to do a consult. After the consult on psych the patient was then transferred under the care of the hospitalist dept. My question is can both hospitalist bill for their services; which was done on the same day. And if so do we have to use the Mod-25 or can the consult and the Subsequent stand alone?

as long as they are not the from the same office, they can both bill but if 2 providers from same office (or same tax ID #) saw pt on same day, you should only bill 1 service level that is a combination of both visits.
