My Ortho doctor is doing a follow-up visit, a discharge for a patient that he did surgery on for a workers comp case. He has completed forms and evaluated the patient to return to work. This visit is within the global period of the surgery. He is wanting to bill 99455 for this visit. I have never billed this code and am not very clear on the appropriate use of this code.

Can anyone tell me if this code can be billed for follow-up visits as opposed to an initial eval for the patient's workers comp injury and if it could be billed during the global period of the patient's surgery? If so, will it need a 24 modifier?

Any guidance on the correct and appropriate use of this code would be appreciated!!

Thanks,
Jodi
