Hello,
I need a little help in coding hospital inpatient services, the provider believes there's a different code when he/she does the H&P for a patient that he/she did NOT admit. To my understanding the Initial Hospital care 99221-99223 are for the admitting physician and initial inpatient encounter by physician other than the admitting physician are the initial inpatient consultation or subsequent hospital care codes.
Are we to use the Initial Hospital care codes 99221-99223 just because she did the H&P or is there other codes that I am not aware of to code H&P? information below may help in helping me.
Level of service: Psychiatry H&P completed as the patient was d/c from ICU and readmitted to Psychiatry and they requested me to do the medical H&P
