Hello,
Can someone please tell me how far does the doctor have to go into the rectum until he reaches the sigmoid? I have a procedure note where the doctor states he visualizes the distal 8 cm of the rectal mucosa, and he is billing 45300. Should this be 46600 instead?

Thank you

To bill 45300, the provider must visualize the sigmoid colon and rectal lumen. For 46600, the provider may not reach the sigmoid colon but only moves the scope till anal canal for visualization of distal rectal mucosa.

So, 46600 should be appropriate for this.
