There is patient in the surgery center that came for a colonoscopy he/she was admitted to the pre-operative room where the nurse took his/her vital signs. Upon this the nurse determine that his blood pressure was high and patient ate that morning so he/she never makes to the operating room. would i be able to bill this to the insurance? Do i use ASC CODES OR E/M CODES? I am aware of modifier 73 from my understanding modifier 73 is appended if the patient makes it to the procedure room and has been prepped by the surgical staff I dont this is my case but can i use E/M CODES? OR THIS SHOULD NOT BE BILL AT ALL AND JUST CANCELED THE PATIENT. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK. THANK YOU

If the patient never made it to the procedure room then you cannot bill the procedure even with a modifier for discontinued procedure. Depending on the documentation provided you might be able to bill an E&M.
