Say a office or hospital visit is 1/1/2018 but results of the lab or results of the pathology (to rule out cancer, etc.) is not back until 1/5/2018. Do I code/bill what I know the day of service or can I wait for those results & code/bill those?
 
You would have to hold the bill until the path comes back or unspecified code would be needed. Payer may or may not accept unspecified codes.
