I have found that we often have newly diagnosed glaucoma/preglaucoma patients who cannot sit still for a visual field the first (or more) time that test is performed and therefore the report does not give the physician a good read. The test needs to be repeated, but due to schedule restraints, we can't complete a second visual field on the same day and have the patient come back at a later date. Can we bill for both of these test? And how would you bill for the first test that gives a reading? I have not found a modifier that seems appropriate.

Repeat VF testing

If the patient is asked to return for testing on a different date, you would not need a modifier on the return test visit. (If the provider elected, the 1st test could be billed with the TC modifier, but this should be only at provider discretion.)
