Hi, could anyone please advise how to code 'COPD with acute Bronchitis'? I have seen two options:
1) J44.0, J20.9 or
2) J44.0

Under Disease-Lung-Obstructive with-Acute-Bronchitis there's a code J44.0, why do we need to code J20.9 Acute Bronchitis Separately? Very confused.

Thank you for your advice.

Look up code J44.0 in the tabular index. You can't code from only the alphabetic index and stop there - you must refer to the tabular index and read the notes there as well.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with (acute) lower respiratory infection

Code also to identify the infection

You have to include a code to specify what the lower respiratory infection is. In your example, the acute respiratory infection is acute bronchitis, so you have to use the code for that too.
