I am currently working as a claims specialist. I received my CPC-A in June of 2020. I am ready to work as a medical coder but my lack of experience in healthcare is proving to make it hard for someone to take a chance on me. I actually have a bachelor's in chemistry. I am looking for a job that would allow me to get into the medical coding world as I really enjoy medical coding at least of what I've been taught. It's really annoying because if someone would give me a chance I know I could prove to them they made the right decision. Medical coding clicks for me.

My resume could use some touch-ups and my interview skills could use some improvement but one of my main issues is I don't know what kind of job to apply to help get my foot into the medical coding world. I don't really have any connections that could help. I'm not even sure who to turn to for guidance on finding a job in the medical coding world.

I took the Practicode and I still have the CPC-A. I do work with CPT coding and ICD-10-CM at my job but it's for diagnostic purposes only. I'm not sure what to do to get my foot in the door or what positions to look for to help. I really want to find a job in the medical coding field, can someone give me some advice on what I need to do?

I have a couple of remote coding positions available. Please email me at britte@bp1consulting.com and let me know what specialities you have worked with in any way. Maybe we can help each other?!

If you are able to find a precert job to get your foot in the door that is a good way in. I have years of healthcare experience and finally got a coding job after doing a year in precert and was able to move to coding within the same revenue cycle. I'm very grateful to have that precert foundation and it has helped me tremendously!
