Hello,

I am currently going through the CPC preparation curriculum and hope to take the CPC certification exam next month. I'm wondering what expenses and tools I will need in order to start working as a coding and billing specialist, such as licenses, laptop, etc. Would I personally need to invest in a coding software program like Epic, AdvancedMD, or Open Practice, or is that something that a potential client/clinic/physician would have for me to use? Just trying to map out how to begin. Thanks for reading this! And you're doing safe and well.

You need books and credentials. Your employer would provide the billing software. The computer depends on your employer as to who provides it.

Optional purchases would be a coding program such as "Find a code", "Supercoder" etc. Some employers offer these as well.

Good luck finding a job once you get certified. Everyone wants you to have medical office experience but nobody wants to hire you to get medical office experience, it must come by osmosis???? I passed my exam in January and began looking immediately, ZERO interviews and ZERO calls. I even completed a 50 question survey of ICD-10 for one job only for them to say sorry 4 days later!

I was told this field was crazy looking for people but haven't found that to be true. Even with my certification they want to pay me $13/hr! I can go to Hobby Lobby and start at $15/hr with zero experience! I'm in Raleigh, NC and have now applied for over 125 jobs and have had ZERO interviews. So disgusted!
