Question on 23474 a total shoulder revision. Does the humeral stem need to be replaced also to bill this or if they replace the humeral neck along with the glenoid component would this qualify to bill 23474? Note in op report states that the "patient's previous humeral stem" was kept.
 
Hi Sandy,
If the humeral stem was not revised/exchanged then 23474(both humeral and glenoid comp) would not be appropriate without a modifier 52 for reduced services. The reimbursement is less with the 52 modifier. You can just code the 1 comp 23473 if the full glenoid was revised/exchanged, to get the full reimbursement.
