I am being asked by another physician's office to change a code for hyperplasia of the gingiva, which I coded as 523.8. MCR is not paying for it because it is considered "periodontal." The other physician's office is arguing that it could be coded as unspecified neoplam or benign neoplasm. I feel that it is still best coded as my pathologist has stated and that it is unethical/illegal to be asked to change it to get it paid. My office is backing me up on this. However, I don't want to lose a client over it. Any ideas?
