Hi all. I am really needing some clarification on this topic. According to our auditors, when the provider documents "associated with" for hyperlipidemia and DM2, we are to code E11.69, E78.49. But they are saying I should not code E11.59, I15.2 when provider documents "associated with" for hypertension and DM2. I am just a little confused on this because neither hyperlipidemia or hypertension is indexed in the ICD as being presumed causal. So my question is, why is it documentation of "associated with" links hyperlipidemia to DM2 but not hypertension? If someone has any insight on this it would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thanks!

I see what you are saying. I would start by asking the provider, then follow up with the auditor to figure it out.
