Does anyone else remember an instruction telling us to code documentation of hypothyroidism (unspecifie) as E89.0 (Post-procedural hypothyroidism) when patient is S/P thyroidectomy? I can't find a CC reference but I'm positive it's been on a webinar or something within the last year. TIA!

The ICD-10 Alphabetic Index under 'Absence' --> 'thyroid' directs you to code E89.0. I'm not aware of any specific written guidance on this, but following ICD-10 guidelines, that's the correct code to report for patient who is s/p thyroidectomy.
