PROCEDURE PERFORMED:
Incision, drainage, and debridement of necrotic tissue and abscess of
the back.

INDICATION FOR PROCEDURE:
large mid thoracic slightly right of center line
abscess approximately 12 x 12 cm with a large area of fluctuance and
some purulent drainage.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE:
A large elliptical incision approximately 6 cm in
length was made over the area of maximum fluctuance to incorporate the
area that was already opened. Medially on our incision, a copious
amount of purulent material was expressed from the wound as well as a
large amount of blood. On exploration of the wound, a pocket was
noted both laterally and inferiorly. A counter incision was made
inferiorly in the dependent portion of the wound. The soft tissues
and the wound were noted to be necrotic. This necrotic tissue was
aggressively debrided. A large amount of bleeding was noted from
multiple areas of the wound predominantly in the superior aspect of
the wound.
